About ICOR
Founded in 1972, the Interorganizational Council on Regulation (ICOR) brings together four key organizations:
- Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ)
- Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB)
- National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB)
- National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES)
For more than 50 years, ICOR has collaborated to share best practices and advocate for the vital work of licensing boards that regulate the professions of architecture, engineering, interior design, landscape architecture, and surveying.
ICOR Leads Landmark Collaboration to Clarify Overlapping Practice in the Design Professions
Design professionals routinely confront challenging questions about where one discipline’s scope ends, and another begins—often without clear precedent or shared standards. ICOR has released comprehensive new guidance to help licensing boards and practitioners address these issues with greater consistency, transparency, and defensibility.
Advancing Licensure and Global Standards
CIDQ advocates at the state and provincial levels to educate policymakers about the interior design profession’s impact on public safety and the importance of reasonable regulation. We support policies that allow NCIDQ Certified designers to fully apply their expertise in protecting health, safety, and welfare in the built environment.
Through our rigorous exam and collaboration with our allied organizations, we uphold high professional standards and promote the certified interior designer’s role in safeguarding the public.
